Starling in the rain

It’s another dull and dismal day in terms of weather, and I drift between odd moments of some energy and the aching heaviness of yesterday. It’s all so tedious.

Fortunately, I manage to grab a few kitchen window shots of some rather sodden starlings who invaded the garden this morning. This winter is the first time we’ve ever seen them here, but now most days see the marauding gang swoop in to raid the feeders, scattering smaller birds in their wake.

They struggle to balance on the suet ball feeder, wings frequently flapping to aid them. I love catching their wings in action, though I’d rather have a shot of them on branches. Hence today’s main is a very wet starling on the apple tree (best viewed large), with a collage of others as an extra.
