The Lozarithm Lens

National Love Your Pet Day (Sunday 20th February)

Smokey has proved to be a hard act to follow, and I haven't really had the heart to add another cat to the household so far. I am friends with Loki who lives with C. in Trowbridge.
I do have this inherited stone doorstop that is now several feline life-spans old.

Lozarhythm of the Day:
Omar Khorshid - Apache (2015)
When Jerry Lordan, a songwriter who had made a couple of singles produced by George Martin in 1960, wrote Apache he could not have predicted the shelf life of the song. The instrumental was first recorded by Bert Weedon but when Top Rank dragged their heels releasing it, Jerry Lordon grew impatient and while on tour played the tune to Jet Harris of the Shadows on a ukelele. The Shadows version was subsequently released and became a worldwide hit, spawning a number of covers by the Champs, the Ventures, the Surfaris - everybody. In the seventies it had an afterlife in updated and much changed versions by the SugarHill Gang and the Incredible Bongo Band (Cliff Richard had played bongos on the Shads' version).
Until Cerys Matthews played it on this day I was not aware of this Egyptian adaption designed for belly dancing!
