Wait for the Queens Guide

This finger post at Canal Foot in Ulverston points out over the bay and advertises a Public Byway. The small green sign on the post reads:-
THIS ROUTE HAS
 NATURAL HAZARDS.

Seek Local Guidance

The hazards are rivers, very fast tides  and quicksand. The byway is indicated on the Ordnance Survey map and I've attached an extract in extras so you can see where the route goes. The red dotted line from Canal Foot across the bay is a "Public byway open to all traffic" .   Yes All Traffic!!!

There are many who want the route removing from the map  so that the unsuspecting, who ignore the small green sign,  don't attempt a nice walk across the bay. But legally its been a public byway for hundreds of years  and difficult to remove .
If you are in the area, don't follow the byway , the route changes with the sands. Wait for one of the advertised led crossings by the Queens Guide to the Sands - currently a Michael Wilson, a local fisherman.
