Staveley Fell (in Chapel House Wood)

Mr P on the top of another Wainwright Outlying Fell. That's 26 ticked off out of 116, so still a few to go yet. Gummers How in the distance, we are a bit higher. A perfect spot for tea and cake in the sun.

This contributed an other 6km to my virtual walk and I'm pleased to have got to the end of a very long tedious bit of General Wade's military road. By the way, I've found out that General George Wade who built the military road from Newcastle to Carlisle is not the same person as Field Marshall Wade who built many military roads in Scotland, how confusing.

The only thing of interest along the way was St Oswald's in Lee church on the site of the Battle of Heavenfield  where King Oswald of Northumberland defeated Cadwalla in 634 AD . I'll remember to nip up to the church to take a look when I get round to doing this walk for real. I finished todays' walk at another bit of real wall  at Planetrees which nearly disappeared in the 1800s when a local farmer was stopped from taking the blocks to build his farmhouse, by an eminent historian  who pleaded with him to save the wall for posterity and future visitors .
