Donkey well

Another day, another hike. The weather was beautiful, 12°C and sunny. Just like we expect end of February 2022.
My blip today is the Eselsbrunnen (donkey well) in Lichtenberg (see here for the castle). The water from the well was brought to the village, a 50 feet higher up the hill, by donkeys, hence the name. This well was used for many ages, until in 1890/1891 a water pipe was laid between Lützelbach, a village a couple of kilometres away, 100m higher and with a number of good wells. The Eselsbrunnen water was of poor quality and the new source was a real benefit.
