Wine tasting!

In the morning we drove around a bit, visiting Kerrsville and Comfort, where we stopped for lunch. The Texas Hill Country is also well-known for its wineries so in the afternoon we visited a couple of wineries and enjoyed some wine-tasting. The Texan wine industry had its origins in the 1650s when the Franciscan priests began producing sacramental wines from native varieties. During the second half of the 19th century German immigrants to the Texas Hill Country discovered the mustang grape, and the quality of the wine that they produced convinced others to plant vineyards and the Texas wine region was born. However, the golden age of Texas winemaking ended with Prohibition and the modern Texas wine industry was not really reborn until the late 1970s and early 1980s. Late afternoon we explored more of the historic buildings in Fredericksburg.
