Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

My Book Club

After some discussion we decided to meet in person this month for the first time in 2 years…(only if triple vaccinated and negative quick test before we went.)    Our hostess was happy to welcome  us to her “new” apartment that most haven’t seen since she moved in at the beginning of the pandemic.   There was a lot of back and forth about who was going and who was driving who and the parking spots allowed at the retirement home.    So much so it made me realized how much easier it was to zoom, with none of that.      Then just yesterday afternoon our hostess got sick and we called it off….so here we are back to zoom.  whew.
Easier!  I’ve seen most of them one on one anyway, but not as a group.

6 out of 10 were able to meet here on zoom.  3 of us had read the book.  Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, suggested last time as a comparison to The Piano Tuner by Daniel Mason and to compare the themes of imperialism and racism 100+  years apart.  We also drifted over to “madness” and could not ignore the similar isolated madman in the news today .   I happened to find Victory on my shelves when cleaning out so read it too…Such a wonderfully descriptive writer of sentences and characters!   Lots of new insights to “the Horror”……

But I’m a bit worried about the future of this 30+ year book club as we get older ….

Now to watch what our president has to say in his State of the Union address....
