Between fen and mountains

St Michel de Cuixa

We decided to go ahead with the walk despite low cloud and the threat of rain. In fact the rain did not arrive till late afternoon so we did not get wet. The cloud was low so we stayed in the valley and walked along the irrigation canal to the abbey, one of the architectural jewels of the region dating from the ninth century and on the pilgrim route to Compostela. We climbed up onto the opposite ridge and had our sandwiches at the Tour de Corts before returning to the car. One of our number offered tea and biscuits to everyone at their house on the way back which was very welcome.
