Molesworth...

…………………………….……Station

This high country station is the largest farm in New Zealand. It is located between Hanmer Springs and Marlborough, towards the top of the South Island. (marked on the blip map).

Each year from October to April the gates are unlocked from 7am to 7pm allowing the public to have access for day trips or overnight camping. Most people travel through the property, but this year the road to Molesworth on the Marlborough side is undergoing repairs and closed to traffic.

Our day spent amongst this magnificent scenery and travelling along the narrow and very dusty road under sunny blue skies was from our base in Hanmer Springs. While the distance isn’t far, (see the last extra for a smile) the slow speed required, and many, many stops for photographs the day was long - over 11 hours from the time we left the motel until we returned, satisfied, but exhausted! It was absolutely worth every minute of the day. And we made it to the historic cobb cottage by the main farm settlement before backtracking to Hanmer.

Some of these photos were along the valley leading to Molesworth, but most are of the farm showing merino sheep, bee hives, cattle, rivers, the metal road, mountains and late summer colour - the landscape and the views were awe inspiring.

Thank you for the comments and stars for the tree-lined divide along the main street into Hanmer centre. The green of summer changes to golden autumn colours to stark bareness in the winter, even prettier blanketed with white snow.
