Running behind with my blips again!
Tuesday
Late morning we drove downtown to go to Music Live at Lunch at Christ Church Cathedral. Today’s musical presentation was a group calling themselves Lagniappe, and playing Cajun and New Orleans jazz type music. There was a fiddle player, accordion, guitar/banjo, bass guitar and percussion. It was really fun music, made you want to get up and dance! Before we returned home afterwards, I wanted to get a photo of another Cincinnati mural for my blip. This one, called “Visionary Reality Threshold” was located just a few blocks away from the cathedral. In partnership with the Contemporary Arts Center, ArtWorks brought internationally renowned contemporary artist, Saya Woolfalk, to Cincinnati, to create a new mural alongside her 2019 exhibition at the CAC. Lead Teaching Artist Paul Loehle worked alongside two other professional artists to lead 14 Youth Apprentices in bringing this mural to life. Based in New York City, Woolfalk is best known for her multimedia work, which spans from 2D painting, sculpture, performance and projection. Across her breadth of work, Woolfalk explores complicated themes, such as science, race, and gender, while often utilizing science-fiction and fantasy to reimagine what the world could be in a different universe or dimension. This mural features a series of mandala-like portals, “inviting the viewer in to explore the intricacies of the pattern-work as they turn to deep contemplation and personal reflection to imagine a future society. A large goddess rises to watch over and protect the entire city”.
In the afternoon, I was busy packing. “But you’ve only just got back from Florida”, I hear you say! This time we are headed in the opposite direction - up to the frozen north - to visit our daughter Laura, who moved up to Wisconsin just after Christmas. It is her birthday tomorrow, so we will be helping her celebrate her birthday, and taking some things up for her she couldn’t fit in her car. It’ll just be a short trip, returning next Monday.
In the evening we were downtown again, this time for a piano recital at Music Hall. The concert was originally scheduled for last autumn, but had to be rescheduled, as the pianist Daniil Trivanov, had a shoulder injury. It was a great concert.
