a lifetime burning

The seed that got away

We have such a lot of blackbirds in the UK that it is easy to take them for granted - they are certainly one of the most common garden birds.  With their black colouring and yellow beaks (brown feathers in the case of the female) they are not the most colourful species.  But they do sing beautifully which makes them very welcome.

This one stopped briefly on the fence in a patch of sunlight, complete with seed in its beak.  Just look at that plumage - it may be black but it is beautiful plumage.  What you can't see in this shot, is that in trying to do something with the seed it managed to carelessly drop it - so ended up without its lunch.  Well, this bit of its lunch anyway. So with that voom! and it was gone.
