How art the mighty fallen

This used to be a centuries old, majestic tree at the end of a steep bank of trees, mainly beech and oak, above the track leading to the Doune Farm Rothiemurchus then the gales came and along with so many more it fell.

The building in the background is Boring Mill Cottage where wooden water pipes, some of them destined for London were made. The mill was powered by the adjacent Alt na Cardoch burn

Writing in 1812 Elizabeth Grant of Rothiemurchus complained that the mill was too close to the road 'for when going had often frightened horses fording the stream'.
