Butler's Retreat

This not very remarkable looking building is a Grade 11 listed building, on the edge of Epping Forest, very close to Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge and  dates back to 1891. Originally, retreats served non alcoholic drinks as part of the temperance movement .  This one closed in 2009 and was then refurbished by the City of London Corporation, opening as a charming although rather expensive café in 2012.  It is even more expensive now that we have to pay to park opposite!   On the plus side there is always room to park in the tiny car park now and it is a very tranquil place to enjoy a cup of coffee and have a chat as I and my friend H did this morning.

In other news: the situation in Ukraine continues to worsen.  It is now two weeks since Russia invaded.
