Quince

Cydonia oblonga. A shrub of Japanese origin.

In Wikipedia I read that it is hardy, drought tolerant, happy in sun or shade. It adapts to many soils. It can go years without pruning and does not suffer any major insect problems. The fruit are not edible but can be used to make Quince jelly.

What more can you ask for ?

This one is in my neighbours garden but I am so impressed that I think I might buy one.
