John Lewis 1932-2022

It was my uncle John's memorial service, midday, at St John the Baptist Church, Kidmore End, nr Sonning Common, Reading (Berkshire UK) so I Ieft home at 8.15am to make sure I was there in time. They married in the church and lived in the area for about half a century before moving to Dorset and Somerset areas to be in between their two children and grandchildren. They never really settled and wished they'd not moved away so hence the memorial service here, and to scatter his ashes.

The photo' is of my uncle enjoying what looks like a glass of Bailey's Irish Cream. John was born in Brecon (Wales) and moved to the Reading area when he met my aunty Terri. He said he only went there to get a diploma and ended up with a wife! A headmaster in working life, he had an awesome sense of humour and was good fun to be around hence his popularity. The church was decked with daffodils (symbol of Wales) and a Welsh Choir sang before, during and after the service.

I was tasked with doing a video of the service and thankfully that turned out okay. The half hour service was followed by a couple of hours in the pub next door to the church where a superb spread was enjoyed before the 2hr 40 journey home.
