St Catherine's Hill

Today we spent five hours out walking the bounds of the city of Winchester,  mostly  on pavements, as a "training session" for a fifteen mile walk we are doing in east London next weekend. Today we walked about  ten miles, and  had a short lunch stop along the way at  the  Bridge Patisserie. Relieved we don't feel any ill effects and my slightly "dodgy" knee coped well.
The picture is of St Catherine's hill, looking  across the water meadows as we approached St Cross from the city centre.
This evening we watched an interesting  programme featuring Romesh Ranganathan in which he  visited  Sierra Leone to discover its natural beauty (golden beaches, tropical forests) and its tragic history  involving slavery, civil war, and Ebola. I was particularly fascinated having visited the  country twice as a  volunteer. At the time  I sensed it had a lot to offer visitors with its friendly and welcoming people and its untapped natural  treasures, and  Romesh confirmed that with his journey.
