Opportunistic

The mono Monday theme asks us to identify our photographic style in one word. I’m not sure I have a style - I photograph what interests me. Today that has included birds, landscapes, portraits, buildings, abstractions and flora. I like the record of something on the day, some days are eventful in image terms, some days are less so.

Today was eventful. We travelled over to Crosby beach, where Anthony Gormley’s 100 likenesses along the 3 km of shoreline had largely emerged from the sea as the tide receded.

The last year or so has involved a lot of controversy over statues. What cannot be denied is that people are endlessly fascinated by the human form. These statues must be endlessly photographed, often with someone embracing them or standing alongside them. Occasionally they acquire clothing - one was wearing a very baggy grey jumper today. Many are extraordinarily barnacled and have acquired an alien patina from constant immersion in the sea. And some - such as this one - are gradually sinking into the sand and will need rescuing and repositioning before they are lost forever.
