Aubretia

It always surprises me when the tiniest of cuttings taken by Rebecca, will colonise an area in the shortest space of time. This has recently happened to this pretty springtime flower Aubretia (Aubrieta)
Soon to be visited by one of our most unusual flying insects. I am of course referring to the Bee fly (Bombyliidae).  With its Pinocchio shaped nose, this amazing sun loving insect, flies and feeds (on nectar) similar to that of a humming bird
