Small is Beautiful

Chionodoxa, aka Glory of the Snow, is a widely grown spring bulb that can naturalise when it finds the right spot.   This little beauty is Chionodoxa cretica, a much smaller plant than the horticultural varieties.   I raised it from wild collected seeds around twenty years ago and it's gone from a few tiny bulbs to a fair potful.   Individual flowers are less than 1cm across  but en masse they can make a striking display.

Allotment time this morning saw more progress with digging and both peas and parsnips planted.   Old seed but it should still be viable.  Nothing ventured ....    Lots of phone calls and emails this afternoon saw a little progress made on issues for Ruth when she returns to Brum before Meg and I headed out into the countryside again before tea.   The longer daylight hours are so welcome!
