Sketching the vegetable plot

Much of the morning was spent preparing to promote our soon to be launched website at a community meeting this evening - a potentially tricky situation because of previous personality clashes and competency issues. Preparation is always important, especially when you want to get people on-side. Job complete, we were able to 'get back to the drawing board' on the new vegetable patch in the old field.

Recently we watched a BBC Alba programme on gardening from the island of Lewis. It was very couthy, but it showed them making raised beds for their vegetable plot, which looked pretty simple and straightforward. Having also noticed the suggestion in a Carol Klein book, plans were quickly sketched out and we headed to our local timber merchant for some suitable lengths of wood. They came 4.8m long but, cut in half, they fitted neatly up the middle of the car through the opening in the back seat. Back at the drawing board, we worked out that a combination of 2.4m by 1.2m raised beds would fit neatly together with working space between. So, here's the first one completed and, appropriately (we think), 'doctored' in a pencil sketch format.
