The Masters Golf Tournament

The Masters is one of the four major annual professional golf tournaments.. It is the only one which is always played on the same course: the Augusta National Golf Club, in Augusta, Georgia. This is a television image of the 12th hole, a short par 3--one of the the most demanding which the touring professional golfers face each year.

The tournament is always in early spring, and the course is simply gorgeous, bordered everywhere by flowers, above all azaleas. The Club is highly prestigious and conservative--it admitted its first two women members only last year. More positively, it is is able to impose restrictions on American television coverage which result in fewer breaks for advertisements (what we call commercials) than at any other golf tournament. It's always a pleasure to watch it; unfortunately I've never gotten there in person.
