Heartbreak Hotels

Work stopped on these two new Paignton seafront hotels a few weeks ago when Midas, the construction company went into liquidation. Several reasons were given, including COVID, and the rising cost and shortage of materials. Lots of livelihoods disappeared overnight. Another company, Brady, has taken over, and yesterday there were at least four people on site as we walked by. In the evening at the Paignton Heritage Society there was a fabulous talk about the Exeter ecclesiastical sculptor and woodcarver Harry Hems (1842 - 1916). Looking forward to going to to see his work, especially his old studio, now a restaurant and bar called Harry’s Bar, in Exeter.
