Cheltenham Festival 5

My week of chronicling the Cheltenham Festival ends today with Gold Cup Day. The sun shone and the temperature climbed quickly.

From first thing the atmosphere was building towards the all important 3.30 race. If we were not witnessing a 21st century war in Europe I would be drawing parallels between the incessant roar of helicopters and war films. I have never seen so many helicopters stacking waiting to land at Cheltenham Racecourse. The privately owned helicopters remain in the field. The corporate flying taxis buzz off for other work and buzz back in to pick up their “fares”.

As we walked to collect the boys from school I could feel the atmosphere filled with the seething mass of humanity, nearby, travelling hopefully towards the bookmakers?

We took a back road, avoiding the race traffic, this morning, to get to our local plant nursery to add some future structure to our garden.

Can you see the Gold Cup Flyer heading towards the Racecourse?
