Sgwarnog: In the Field

Clough

One for the archive as our library and community hall is scheduled for demolition.

Ian Clough Hall opened in 1971, named after the Baildon born mountaineer who was killed while climbing Annapurna the year before. His friend and fellow climber Chris Bonington opened the building and there is a plaque marking the event inside.

The library will be moved nearby, but this is also where I vote and I'm not sure where that function will be relocated.

Fifty years doesn't seem that old for a building, but maintenance costs have deemed it uneconomic, and like much modernist architecture, it isn't seen as significant.
