WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

The Rookery

A slow day today, didn’t get much done apart from sowing seeds in the propagator and trying in vain to get Bella’s usual dog food - out of stock everywhere. I’ll have to find an alternative.
Frank sawed up all the bits of wood outside from the platform on which the greenhouse stood until a stormy night last Autumn!
I could hear the Rooks all day and walked past the rookery this afternoon, they are so noisy and raucous! :-D

88/365 The Rookery

The nests are almost finished,
high up in the tree tops,
caw-caw caw-caw the rooks call
as along the branches they hop.
Beaks full of grass and moss,
the final small gaps to fill,
these cosy little structures
are built with such care skill.
Eggs will be laid any day now
four or five to a clutch,
pale blue-green and glossy
far away from human touch.
Safe up there the chicks will hatch,
mum and dad will be busy
flying to and fro with grubs
those tiny beaks are so noisy.
Soon those chicks will be grown
and they’ll teeter on the edge,
in the warm breeze they’ll sway
until, in a leap of faith they’ll fledge.

Goodnight Blippers :-)
