Pub Portrait - Roachaldo

Tonight's entry is for my good friend Craig.

So we are continuing the series of pub portraits, an occasional look at people who talk nonsense over a few beers on a Friday.

Craig is one of the Young uns. 52 this week, my school year.

We first met at 17 years old when he played for a football team that I didn't, but knew people who did. He was one of those who left school at 16, had a job and a car, a Vauxhall Nova if I remember rightly.

He worked in Manchester, and after I graduated he was part of our 50p a trip 'car school'. 5 or more of us sharing lifts, in and out of Manchester. He eventually became a mature student going to Lampeter to study Swedish. Now married to a Finn, Miia, obviously...

As with all these write ups there's lots you can say and lots that don't make the cut. Craig, like the rest has many stories.

One of the most recent and most fabulous was in and around my 50th during lockdown. As restrictions lifted he told me that one day we were off for a suprise trip...I had no idea where.

As he picked me up and we set off it was where to? We drove on the motorway, and up the M61, so not North Wales then...

Further north and later we ended up in Penrith. A meal in a pub, then a meet in a bar. I still didn't know who, or what we would be doing.

We met Mark Littlejohn, Landscape Photographer, and our guide for the following day. A day in his company, and in his charge.

After a night of beer, we had a day of snapping.... a brilliant suprise and Mark a character too.
