Heritage Flight

This afternoon  this group of planes flew past to mark the 85th anniversary of the RNZAF.  They left Christchurch this morning and will travel on to their base at Ohakea in the North Island.  Andrew alerted us to this happening and he and Beverley came and had coffee while we waited and watched.  My hearing still works and it was the low engine noise that was heard first.  They went over our airport and along Tahunanui Beach trailing smoke.  The flight were a Spitfire, an Avenger and two T-6C Texan II.
Easy song choice.

Those magnificent men
In their flying machines
They go up-tiddly-up-up
They go down-tiddly-down-down
They enchant all the ladies
And steal all the scenes
With their up-tiddly-up-up
And their down-tiddly-down-down
Up, down, flying around
Looping the loop and defying the ground
They're all frightfully keen
Those magnificent men in their flying machines . . . Ron Goodwin
