Saving lives

The lawn is finally mowed. ..  before it rains.

A local walk today. A  bit chilly but the sun was warm when it came out.

Blip is of  an air ambulance helicopter passing over, presumably en route to Blackpool Hospital This service is so important as by air the distance is 21 miles but by road it is 71 miles.  They also go to Preston which is is a similar distance.
Both hospitals offer more specialised treatment for seriously ill and critically injured patients which our local hospital cant offer.
Many people owe their lives to the fact the air ambulance got them to the hospital in time. This includes people injured on the Lake   District fells, in road accidents etc.

But this essential service is  not part of the NHS and doesnt receive any government funding.
.It is a charity organisation and run partially by volunteers and only survives by donations from the public.
We re happy to donate each  month but when I look at some of the wierd and wonderful things that do get Government funding I do feel the air ambulance should get some too.
Rant over.
