Jigsaw Weather

I managed to dodge the showers (just) and the worst of the very high winds to post a birthday card, but it was definitely an indoor day today. So apart from finishing my jigsaw, I did some admin and housework and listened to a lovely U3A talk by Saffron Summerfield called When Birds Sing. Her talk covered not only bird song recordings, but info about how physically they’re able to sing, how they learn, regional dialects and why they sing. Saffron is a musician, so several of the recordings also included her music as well. A very interesting and relaxing hour.

I read today on the BBC that North Norfolk District Council has the highest rate outside London of second homes of any local authority in England and Wales - it’s way too high. Second homes / holiday lets account for 50.3% of homes in Salthouse, 47.7% in Morston and 43.3% in Blakeney. The council is to investigate how this impacts local people - a bit too late!

Day 752 / Day 43 of no Legal Covid Requirements in England (for my record only)
A study from Sweden suggests that there’s an increased risk of developing a serious blood clot for six months after a Covid infection. The highest risk was for people who had a severe infection and for those in the first wave. Another good reason to keep up with our vaccine doses. 20 NHS Accident and Emergency depts in England were turning people away at some times in last week. 25% of ambulances are waiting at least 30 mins to handover patients.
