The Kate Kennedy Procession

A unexpected treat of great splendour today while we were in St Andrews. The Kate Kennedy procession returned after a two year COVID-break.

‘The procession traces its origins to the adoration by students of the niece of Bishop Kennedy, the founder of St Salvator’s College, the oldest in St Andrews University. This niece was Lady Katharine Kennedy, affectionately known as Kate, reputedly one of the most beautiful women of her day’

The colourful procession which sees characters from 700 years of St Andrews history leave from the gates of St Salvator’s College and parade through the town where vast crowds gather to watch.
