Sowing sunflowers

I planned a wildflower walk, but didn't manage to fit it in; but at least J's sunflower seeds are finally sown. Last year's dwarf shaggy ones were a disaster, with poor germination rates followed by early decimation by slugs, so we are hoping for a return to the usual bright row of tall flowers beside the greenhouse this summer. She has been growing sunflowers since she was about eight, when my brother gave her the first set of little pots, seed tray and packet of seed for her birthday.
