Floating Island

View large to feel the "float"

Parked at Ennerdale today to walk the length of the lake, then over Haycock, Little Gowder Crag and Caw Fell. The route we followed to climb Haycock seemed like a little used path - in fact we spent the best part of an hour ploughing through thick heather, and our legs have the scratches to show for it.

Eventually made the summit, then on to the Birkett of Little Gowder Crag, and finally to Caw Fell, completing the Wainwright book of Western Fells. The main pic shows the approach to the summit cairn of Caw Fell, with what looked like an optical illusion of an island floating in the sky. What it actually was - was the sea, which we were looking down on, with the Isle of Man in the distance - but it really looked odd! The extra is the walk back towards Haycock, where the path down forked off just before we started to climb again. an 11 mile walk, that felt much longer!

Haycock: 178/214
Little Gowder Crag (Birkett 319 of 541)
Caw Fell: 179/214

Now a couple of enforced days off!
