Tall poplar

This very tall and irregularly shaped poplar, and its smaller and very crooked companion, stand at the bottom corner of our orchard. Between them is an old stone boundary marker. They are visible from a considerable distance, and I have previously blipped a photo of them from the bottom of the valley, but from here they are more difficult to photograph satisfactorily, with too many obstacles to a clear view and overhead electricity cables necessitating a close and wide angle.

I was supporting J with Art Talk today, as her PAs are on holiday, and she had chosen the theme of paintings in films. She had some good examples, with video clips to share as well as links to the paintings - Renoir's Déjeuner des Canotiers in Amélie (one of my favourite films), the tour of the Art Institute of Chicago in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, with its zoom into the tiny dotted surface of Seurat's Dimanche à la Grande Jatte, the astonishing oil painted animation of Loving Vincent, Girl with a Pearl Earring, the film (based on Tracey Chevalier's novel) echoing the palettes and rich detail of Vermeer and his contemporaries, and the Pierce Brosnan remake of The Thomas Crowne Affair, a fun film about a complicated art heist from the Met in which several famous paintings play lead roles.

Yet again, I must apologise for going to o to bed without browsing, commenting or giving away any hearts.
