Old Windmill Site -- 'Backer en Ruebweg', Breda

Right at the center of this shot is where an old windmill used to stand.  The Backer en Ruebweg (named after a local company), an important road, was constructed over the site, but, of course, the windmill was already long gone.  It didn't have a name but was built sometime in 1782 and demolished in 1802, based on historical records.  It's not hard to imagine a windmill at that spot, come to think of it.  What I wonder about is how built up the area was at the time.  The Mark would have overflown its banks from time to time, but if the area was all wetland, would it have mattered?  I suppose so if the excess water threatened the town.

Three hours of cycling today!  The original intention was the site of an old mill on the way to Ulvenhout (which has its own windmill, which I've already shot), so we went there but could not decide which dead-end street it was.  I should study the map again and go alone next time.  On the way back, we stopped for a little more than a half hour to have a snack on the Ginnekenweg.  The weather was glorious and we sat outside, and because it was way after lunch it was not busy.

Back home, after about an hour, I felt so sleepy that I took a nap on the couch.  The snack was heavy enough so AW simply had a pancake, and then left to Hennen's place for that short talk that should have taken place last Monday.  He was back after an hour and said that Hennen accepted the decision.  So... what's H going to do now?  No idea, says AW, and no longer his concern.  He's going to play with someone else next season, everything's been arranged, and that is that.  While he was out, I just helped myself to leftovers.

Week 2 of the MOOC almost done, finished some housework, then enjoyed a chunk of Clanlands.  I am particularly thankful for the hours we spent together cycling around.
