Menagerie

We walked from Ely to Waterbeach (11 or 12 miles, depending on which sign you go by – see extras). My feet were killing me by the end.

We got the train to Ely, and started off our walk on the east bank of the River Great Ouse. At the Fish and Duck, we switched to the River Cam, a tributary of the Ouse. We crossed to the west bank at Dimmock’s Cote, and stopped for lunch when we were Five Miles from Anywhere. We continued following the Cam, finishing at the Bridge, Waterbeach, where we had a well-earned beverage or two. We got the train home from Waterbeach.

As we walked, we saw a snake/eel (which surprisingly made Mr Pandammonium jump more than me!), a strange unidentified wiggly thing (that only I saw), a lizard (that only Mr Pandammonium saw), a hare, a brown mammal with a white tail that could’ve been a rabbit or a muntjac (we only got a fleeting glimpse as it disappeared into the trees), a heron, many ducks, including a non-mallard pair, geese (blocking the way), swans, corvids, gulls, many midges, flies, bumblebees, butterflies, cows, sheep, horses and probably other things.

We passed a menagerie with a massive black chicken, a goat, an alpaca, a donkey and a peacock. I don’t think the peacock was impressed by my peacock impression.
