New Town Trail

Yesterday was the launch of the new town trail. There was a pipe band to lead the way and sunshine to boot.
I was volunteering - in my hi-viz vest - manning the information point in the Market Square. I thought I'd better find out a bit more about the points of the trail in case I was asked any questions. I discovered why this old hostelry, The Whip and Saddle, has a lump missing on the lower corner. It was designed this way so that when the stagecoach came bowling through to the White Swan, which was behind me and to my left, the wheels wouldn't keep hitting the corner and cause structural damage as it came round the corner. And there was me thinking they'd missed a bit!!
