The Market Brae Steps ('Brae' = Hill.)

Central Inverness exists on two levels. There is sea and river level and there is a higher plane. I expect it's something to do with raised beaches or the last ice age, but I'm mostly making this up. The result is that the town has several steep stairways and lanes leading from one level to the other. (See also extra photie, the very punishing 'Raining Stairs.' That car you can just see is at the bottom of them.) The Market Brae Steps, at least have flat sections where you can catch your breath. There used to be a market at the top. Now there is a car park.
PS There is another sharp incline called Godsman's Brae. It's a real killer. By the top you are going: 'Oh, God.'
