Recently moulted male

The extra today shows an adult Pukeko feeding a recently hatched chick, and in the process showing the chick where the tastiest (I presume) parts of the grass are found. I mliken the way that the adult lays the food across its foot; from a very young age the Pukeko chick is feeding itself, albeit with food gathered by one of the adiults in the group.

The main photo is a nice study of a recently moulted adult male starling. The small collection of purple feathers at the top of the chest is the sign that it is a male. There are so many colours on this bird, which I always thought was like a black bird.
