Make Hope Possible Rather Than Despair Convincing

Today's image is of the front of one of my brother's t-shirts. It's a quote made by Raymond Williams - a Welsh writer, academic, novelist and critic who wrote on politics, culture, the media and literature. I think with all that is going on in the world today it is particularly apt.
The war in Ukraine does make you despair but there is hope in the way communities around the world have shown their support and love for the Ukrainian people in their darkest hour.
Another story which caused me despair today was our government's announcement that it intends to send migrants thousands of miles away to Rwanda (a country with an abject human rights record) for "processing". This is people who have already risked their lives trying to cross the channel and have fled the traumas of war, persecution and abject poverty. It is disgusting, immoral and inhumane.
The hope has been in the reaction from so many quarters to Pritti Patel's (surely the worst Home Secretary in living memory) plans. Politicians from all sides, including Conservatives, have pledged to make sure it will never happen - apart from being inhumane it is also unworkable and extortionately expensive. The government has said this is intended to stop the human traffickers (it won't) but surely they are just 'legally' (which I'm sure will be challenged in the courts) trafficking them to Rwanda using taxpayers' money and making us all complicit in doing so.

Sorry about getting a bit heavy there but sometimes you just need to get things off your chest.
Today was a fairly quiet day as my brother just wanted to relax on the first day of his extended Easter holiday. I had to go into town to pay in my cheque for winning the lottery - no, not the big one unfortunately - but £10 from a local charity lottery. After getting stuck in a traffic jam on the way back I then spent it on a couple of pints for me and my brother at one of our local pubs. Still you can't argue with what was essentially free beer!
