Howick Hall

I drove to Alnwick and picked Lynne up then we went on together to Howick Hall, home of the Grey family. Earl Grey is of tea fame and was Prime Minister from 1830-34. His government was responsible for both the Reform Act and SlaveryAbolition Act.

The grounds are lovely to wander in. Surprisingly most of the azaleas and rhododendrons were over - very early we thought. The location is at sea level and very sheltered, whereas my garden is at 500 ft, which might explain why there’s no sign of them flowering here. The white daffodils were lovely as were the fritillaries.

It’s been a lovely sunny afternoon though the breeze was cool.
