Fietsen in Nederland (Cycling in the Netherlands

We had a good long night's sleep and woke up to a beautiful sunny day, cool but very pleasant.  After breakfast, broke out the foldable bikes and got the tyres pumped up for a trip into Delft.  Once there, this is the main 'plein' or square - L with her bike and the Stadhuis (town hall) in the background.  Extra is taken of the Niewe Kerk (new church) behind me which despite its name proudly boasts that it has been the house of God since 1381.  We enjoyed a cold pils and some bittebollen - fried balls of something in breadcrumbs that we used to eat with a drink in the evening when I lived here.  This kept us going while we cycled to a little village called Pijnacker where I lived when I was 15 and when we first arrived in the Netherlands - I took a photo of the house, but it is a little boring for blip as it was really only significant for me having lived there.  We did find a Lidl in Pijnacker and bought some groceries and a panier for the back of my bike so I could carry the food back to the Camper.

Finished the day with a delicious Jalfrezi cook in sauce with some lamb and vegetables.  Enjoying the unique helpful and friendly Dutch culture.  A 79 year old lady wanted to try out the bike.  Also, their cycling infrastructure is unbelievable with cross country cycle paths all over and cars giving way to bikes virtually without exception - the sheer number of bikes going around the place means there are far fewer cars than would normally be expected - during our time out we literally saw hundreds of people cycling just in the small area we covered.
