Life through the lens...

By ValC

Oh Happy Day.

Woke up to sunshine. What a perfect start to my Birthday.
Opened cards etc.Had breakfast, and then drove over to the Yorkshire Wolds where Mr C treated me to the most delicious lunch at my favourite pub. The Star at Sancton.
We both had the Yorkshire Menu, and picked the same three courses.

Started with;
Poached sea trout with charred cucumber, wild garlic hollandaise, samphire and dill.

Main course;
Pan roast pollock, with smoked sea salt hasselback potatoes, steamed chard, smoked white bean purée and garden sorrel butter sauce.

Dessert;
Custard panacotta with black treacle parkin, Yorkshire rhubarb and brandy snap scraps.
( see extra)

Along with a glass of white Albariño.
A perfect meal and the best we have had in ages. No wonder we keep coming back year after year. Just wish it was nearer home.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon at Burnby Hall, Pocklington, where we walked round the gardens admiring the tulips. Watched the children feeding the enormous carp, and saw a lovely little tree creeper in the woodland stumpery. One of my favourite little birds.

Several phone calls and a visit from our daughter-in-law and youngest granddaughter was a lovely end to a perfect birthday.

Would also like to wish a very Happy 96th Birthday to Her Majesty The Queen who I believe was spending the day at Sandringham.
What a lovely birthday photo of her with the two white horses.
