It Gets The Job Done

Here is Matt's hungry wheelbarrow, resting between loads of mulch. We are in the process of a big weeding project, and luckily have a very energetic young man to help in the garden. It always seems that if you don't mulch immediately after weeding, those pests sneak back early the next morning to set new roots. You can see the fresh wood chips on the left there, covering the area around the irises. And there is the corner of the tomato bed on the right; if you stand there for a few minutes, you can watch those plants grow right before your eyes! You can also see that this is the best time for flowers! The irises and roses are just bursting open--every day brings a new color out there. (Those tall lavender iris are from my Aunt Jeanne--I think they are so vigorous because of their New England heritage.) We all worked long and hard today. There's lots more to do, but the parts that are finished look so nice that it's inspiring.
