Lacock Abbey

After leaving Dorset I’m in Warminster visiting my dearest friends. Wiltshire is such a beautiful county; it’s softer and quieter than Dorset, the more I see the more I like it.
Today we visited Lacock Abbey, the home of William Henry Fox Talbot - his work, along with several other innovators, is one of the reasons we’re here on Blipfoto. The abbey is charming, quite homely inside and with a fascinating history. Today’s blip was taken in his study, perhaps the loveliest room in the house, and just down the corridor from the window that features in his first negative.
Matilda Talbot, who inherited the abbey from William, gave it to the NT in 1947. Her individuality is all over the living quarters, which feels comfortable and welcoming. Quite unusual for such a grand house.

One extra is the exterior, the stone’s warm colour shining through the greenery and the other is that window. Obviously William FT didn’t clear up after himself…
