Thank You For the Days ..

There's An Old Mill By the Stream ...

Hogarth's, in Kelso have been grinding barley and oats in their mill on the banks of the Tweed for over a hundred years. Very few food miles, as these are the staple crops grown in the fertile fields of Berwickshire and Roxburghshire ( though there's a lot of rapeseed about this year, the price is good, I'm told). Barley is what beer and whisky are made from, and oats are essential for porridge, all very important to the diet of Scots ... or they were ...

Hogarth's must be doing ok - the mill is expanding. I like these additions to the sturdy stone buildings next door.

Another lovely day! More laundry in the morning, all dried on the line and now airing in a spare room - it smells of fresh air. More moss and leaf raking, we will have to have a fire soon. Graham came and did some weeding and planted lots of the stuff I'd potted up before the winter. We picked up a few essentials and went for a walk along the river.  Meanwhile, number 1 son was on an errand for us, checking out a motorhome .... fingers crossed, it may be finding a new home with us soon :-)
