It would’ve been your 46th birthday today.

Matt on the summit of Helm Crag in Grasmere in July 2006. A hot summer for once.
This is the last photo Stephen ever took of him. They had decided to climb up there together on our last day. We had had a lovely holiday in a cottage with Matthew, then aged 30, and Heidi his wife, Alan, his brother then 21, along with some of Alan’s friends.
We were not to know that 8 weeks later your life would be snatched away in a terrible accident.
16 years have passed since then.
It is now 5.00am as I’m remembering the day you were born and, as it was on that day too, the cherry trees are all in glorious bloom, A blackbird is singing outside, just as I heard one then outside the window of my room, having welcomed you into the world, in St Mary’s Hospital, Portsmouth.
So on this your birthday, which is also St George’s Day, and that of William Shakespeare, I am thankful for the memories we all shared together.
A few more in extras.
