The Workhouse

Built in 1836 to accommodate 200 paupers. It became a hospital in the 1940s but was closed in 1987.

Now Northleach Court Care Home.

When the FIL was alive and still living on his own in Castle Bromwich we spent some time looking at care homes closer to us in the vain hope that we could convince him to move. This one is almost just across the road from us but we thought it was a bit run down when we visited. We understand it has undergone a lot of improvements since then, though at the moment it seems to be in a bit of a transitional state. There was scaffolding all over the frontage until quite recently, but that has all gone now leaving it with a lot of work still to be done. I thought it would be a suitable blip for Wide Wednesday, broken/rundown.

There were actually two much nicer homes a bit further away, one in Bourton and a really upmarket one in Stow. Mrsfb wondered if we should put our names down for that one. It was all a pointless exercise for the FIL though as he refused to move and only went into a home when he ended up in hospital after a fall and it was then considered unsafe for him to return home on his own.
