A Day In The Life

Feelin’ Blue

Each August we buy a five pound box of frozen Maine organic wild blueberries to keep in the freezer for year around baking. We frequently buy fresh blueberries too but they’re cultivated and typically not from Maine. We do love our blueberries! See, I baked blueberry muffins this afternoon! • Maine produces 99% of US blueberries and 15% of the World’s • The blueberry is Maine’s state fruit • North American Indigenous People called them Star Fruits • Wild blueberries are smaller, sweeter and firmer than cultivated ones • MrsP and I have fond memories picking blueberries as kids. She and her two sisters picked low bush berries that grew near power lines not far from her home; their bounty always resulted in Mom’s homemade pie. I picked blueberries from around our waterfront property using a rowboat. A cup or more always ended up in a blueberry cake, a secret family recipe, while the rest may have found their way in my mouth :) • And last but not least, did any of you find your thrill on Blueberry Hill?
