If you can't beat them...

The odd couple

Our cruise down the Trent and Mersey canal continued with us intending to "wind" at Horniglow Basin in Burton on Trent.  We had been moored near the lock at Branston Water Park.

It was here we spotted "the odd couple".  Waterfowl are known to hybridize readily.  For reasons known only to them a Greylag and Canada Goose had paired up.  Clearly, they had been successful as they had three goslings.  Their behaviour suggested the Greylag was the female and the Canada the male.  Seeing what the Goslings turned out like would be interesting.
