If you can't beat them...

Flying Mute Swan ( Cygnus olor )

Back blipped because of the tragic events of the 29th.

One of our favourite places for mooring is Branston Water Park.  It lies in the National Forest just south of Burton on Trent.  Originally an open cast gravel pit it is now a local reserve that also caters for many leisure activities, including fishing, cycling, walking, etc.  For us, it provides an interesting stopping place away from roads etc and with abundant wildlife to see.

Soon after we cast off to begin the day's cruise a flight of five Swans appeared.  They were flying at a right angle to the canal and would pass almost directly overhead.  While on the back of the boat I always have the camera and my binoculars within arm's length.   SO I grabbed the camera and took a few rapid shots.  Fortunately, the settings were suitable as I didn't have time to check.

For a snap shot of a moving bird from a moving boat, I am pleased with this.
